Xtreem wrote:If I was CSM I would be PISSED over the lack of communications from CCP over all this, any reasonable company that got called on the big givaway would have come clean and "oh actually we gave away 30 of them in Aug"
But they did not, CSM try their best but with CCP treating them as a joke means they can't be effective no matter how honest their intent.
Ishokone Scorpions were nothing to do with the 'big giveaway' so why would they come up. They already announced a while back they were being used as community give aways, and as has been pointed out they aren't the only group that has gotten them either.
Am I entirely happy with this news. Of course not. But at the same time, this isn't a scandal of any worthy note. It's TMC trying to make news Fox style. |

It's almost like Malacanis doesn't believe the same ten or so people repeatedly rage posting and ignoring any counter points actually represents the general opinion of the player base. In this I have to agree with him. A lot of people are not particularly offended by this give away. And rather than raging on it, some of us who aren't happy about 'how' it happened are being more constructive in moving on.
This happened months ago, the ships only have a value because collectors have those billions of isk and nothing to spend it on already (10 bil isk is only 10 days for some people, even less for those who tick 250 mil+/hr in null sec anoms with carriers.).
And all this noise over the value of the ships is simply blocking any coherent comments about better ways to be transparent about community give-aways. |

The gifting of the ships themselves becomes a non-issue for that reasoning. CCP can't fix stupid. They had announced more would be given out as they were using the ship for give aways. Somer were not the first group to get this also, if you look through the posts in the larger thread, several other groups also had received them, so there are more than 111 out there also. Anyone believing only 81 existed was being stupid/greedy.
Now.... the secrecy around it, that's a different issue. Totally independent of the value of the gift. And something worth discussing is a better way to be open about rewarding community groups who have been featured. Personally I think a lottery draw from those they have done a dev blog on. With a lottery occurring about every 2 or 3 community blogs (So the potential pool gets larger, not smaller) is a decent mechanic. |

The EXACT same thing can be said about tournament prizes. Alliance or otherwise. And as for your comment about "messing with the sandbox", again, not true. AT rewards don't break the sandbox. Chribba being allowed to have the Veldnaught doesn't break the sandbox. Gnosis battlecruisers don't break the sandbox. Genolution implants... well, you get the point. They are completely different. 1. For example would you be happy if they suddenly gave 200 carriers to Goonswarm for their contributions to the community? or how about some T2 BPOs. 2. Or how about CCP gave them some limited items that sold for hundreds of billions which they then decided to sell and buy those T2 BPOs or Carriers with? Giving rewards to a specific group is a lot different to giving everyone the same thing or giving the AT tournament winners a ship, especially as they have to pay for entry.
To answer. 1. That I would have an issue with. As they affect the balance of power. 30 poor mans scorpions do not affect the balance of power in a significant way. 200 capitals however do.
2. If they had community spotlights Goons in a Dev Blog at some point, and if some collectors decided they totally had to have those limited edition but not very useful items for hundreds of billions, I would have no issue. That is down to peoples greed in game giving the goons an advantage. Not the items themselves giving an advantage. |

Snow Axe wrote:Why would you expect any less? They traded in their player advocate hats a long time ago in exchange for ~improved access~ (fat lot of good it did them here, hey?). Don't let the election fool you, they don't represent players anymore. For all intents and purposes, they are CCP employees, with the only notable distinction being that they're dumb enough to work without pay for a for-profit corporation. Malacanis is doing a pretty good job of expressing my view point. So... he's being a good player advocate from my side of the fence..... I.E. You can't call the CSM out on 'not listening' when players are saying it's not a big deal in opposition to your view point. I have a few issues over it, and have brought them up in the CSM forums in a polite non rage manner where a CSM member has taken them on board. So, they certainly seem to care about our views. Just possibly you haven't provided enough rational facts & logic to convince them that your view has serious merit. |

I'm not a fan of what they have done but I'm sure if I had received one of these ships I'd have been happy., I haven't and to be honest I'm not going to lose any sleep over it. obviously, who wouldn't be happy if they'd been given a fist full of isk from their buddies at CCP? not that any of that changes the fact that malcanis has missed the point, every time he posts. Simply because you believe it so does not make it fact. |

Thus demonstrating why you are completely missing our points. That just because he disagrees does not mean he is 'missing the point' nor does it mean he's some CCP mouthpiece. It means he has an opinion. And simply repeating 'you are missing the point' is not going to change it. Logic might if you can find the right logic. |

it's not even a lack of CSM consultation. surely it's common sense that secretly handing out billions of isk worth of ships with no governing guidelines was a bad idea and was going to bite them in the arse when people inevitably found out?
was it really that important to hand out a few scorpions that it couldn't have waited until there was a proper system in place?
Possibly whoever handed them out didn't consider them worth billions of isk ignoring the collectors who have trillions of isk in their calculations. Given the ships are crap scorpions after all. And the CCP involved valued them based on their actual combat worth, not some fictional collector figure. Since why would a collector spend trillions on a ship it's known CCP is going to reissue repeatedly......
You know. Lets use logic here. |

Market value on a new release item that they have said they will be dropping more of isn't exactly going to be an accurate figure, so entirely logical for them to have disregarded the first few trades on it believing once people get used to the idea that it will be given out regularly it's value will be far far lower. Possibly wrong, but logical. |

Also refer page 2 of the 'larger' (otherwise known as equally spammed by a few people) thread for references to several other organisations that may have already got them as well. And been equally quiet on it. |
